Waterfalls of the Highlands

Bridal Veil Falls, a delicate 45-foot cascade in Macon County, graces US-64 near Highlands. This unique waterfall, part of NC mountain hiking trails, allows visitors to drive or walk behind its flowing veil. Its roadside access makes it a quick, enchanting stop for those exploring North Carolina mountain homes, offering a glimpse of the Cullasaja River Gorge’s beauty and Western North Carolina’s natural charm.

Features

Bridal Veil Falls is accessible directly from a roadside pull-off on US-64, requiring no hike for NC mountain hiking trails enthusiasts. Visitors can walk behind the falls’ gentle curtain, a rare feature, or view it from the road. You used to be able to drive your car under the waterfall but due to some big boulders falling a few years ago they no longer allow that.  The surrounding gorge, with its lush vegetation, adds to the scenic allure. Spring and early summer highlight the falls’ delicate flow, perfect for photography or a quick visit.
